CITY TENNIS PLAYERS ENTERTAIN VISITORS FROM THE COUNTRY

Thirty tennis players from country clubs visited Wanganui over the week-end when the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association sponsored a series of matches on the St. , John’s Club courts. An equal nu’mber ot city players from the Wanganui, Gonville, St. John’s, Wanganui East and Minor Associations played against the country players. The games resulted in a win for the city players by 62 matches to 11 but most of the games were closely contested. The visitors were welcomed by Mr. M. L. Lampe on behalf of the association. Mr. K. Hayhow, on behalf of the association, thanked Mr. Lampe for his generosity in entertaining the visitors and the Wanganui players at luncheon. Results were as follow: City players being mentioned first: — Men's singles.—Cullen beat Mosen, 6-2; Crutchley lost to Dommett 5-6; Ogier beat Ralfe, 6-4. Women's singles.—Miss Coull beat Miss Hancox, 6-2; Mrs Russell beat Mrs. McLennon, 6-4; Mrs. Mailman beat Mrs. Ralfe, 6-3; Miss Hayhow beat Mrs. Carmichael, 6-2.
