“Hold-up” Bride Returning To N.Z.

Recd. 6.30 p.m. Philadelphia, Jan. 25 Norma Phoe, 20-year-old divorced New Zealand war bride, left for her native land today with the prison cell just a bad memory. Gaol loomed for the pretty girl after she had pleaded guilty to an attempted hold-up of a boardinghouse proprietress with a toy pistol. Judge George Parry was sympathetic and gave Norma a suspended sentence in return for a promise. “I’m making it a condition of your parole that you be returned to New Zealand. I hope you appreciate that leniency,” he said. “I certainly do. Norma replied. Mrs. Hilda Wright, of Philadelphia, who has been planning a trip to Australia will accompany Norma. Judge Parry swore in Mrs. Wright as a special deputy probation officer to see that Norma reaches New Zealand.
