New Zealand Wants One Million Dollars To Purchase Tractors
(P.A.) Christchurch, Jan. 26 On the recommendation of the National Aid to Britain Council, the New Zealand Government has asked the British Government to release 1,000,000 dollars for the purchase of harvesting machinery from the United States. A reply is now awaited from the British Government. According to the chairman of the council (Mr. F. P. Walsh) the decision to ask for dollars had been reached after a complete survey of the Dominion’s farm machinery requirements had been made. Mr. Walsh said it had been discovered that certain types of tractors, particularly those for dairy farmers and wheat growers, could be obtained only from America. These were vital lor increased production. He added that an adequate supply of medium-sized tractors would be available from Britain.
