Commission To Inquire Into Flying-Boat Mishap
(P.A.) Auckland, Jan. 18. Sitting in Wellington on Wednesday, the Commission appointed by the Government to inquire into the mishan to the Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat New Zealand, which returned to Sydney on December 3, after sending out a distress signal, will be attended by Mr. J. H. Harper, chief inspector of accidents. Commonwealth Department of Civil Aviation, who arrived here by Air. Mr. Harper said that although the inquiry was ordered bv the New Zealand Authorities, it was felt that as the aircraft left from Australia his Government should have some representation at the hearing. His task would be that of an observer, but if from investigation any suggestions were made for the greater safety of air travel in Australia, he would take these back as recommendations to his Government.
