I. B. Cromb’s Selection Of “Possibles” For England Includes Cave
Oamaru, Jan. 17. The names of 17 “possibles" for the New Zealand cricket team to tour Britain in 1949, of whom 14 wdiild be required, were given in an Interview today by I. B. Cromb, the well-known Canterbury and New Zealand cricketer, who captained the Canterbury colts in their match against North Otago. Cromb’s selection includes seven from Auckland, four from Wellington, four from Canterbury, one from Otago, and one from Wanganui:—V. J. Scott, D. D. Taylor, J. Cowie, C. C. Burke, W. M. Wallace, K. Scott, L. A. Kent (Auckland), the last-named as wicket-keeper; J. Reid, J. Kemp, E. W. Tindill, S. Wilson (Wellington); W. A. Hadlee, F. B. Smith, P. O'Malley, R. T. B. Burtt (Canterbury); B. Sutcliffe (Otago), and H. B. Cave (Wanganui). f Besides the talent available in the Dominion, said Cromb, there was Martin Donnelly, who had received acclaim from the English critics for his grand display for the Gentlemen versus The Rest last year, and the fast bowler, T. Pritchard,who was performing well in county cricket at Home. Both, he added, would probably be available for the Dominion side.
Reviewing the form shown In the North Otago-Canterbury match, Cromb paid a tribute to the bowling of A. Forbes for North Otago, and said he was worthy sf gonideratlon by the Otago selectors.
