WADE STILL LEADS N.Z. CHESS TOURNEY

(P.A.) Dunedin, Dec. 29 R. G. Wade (Wellington) continues to hold the lead in the Dominion chess championship tournament, the third round of which was completed tonight, but had to concede a draw in his game with the Hastings player, D. I. Lynch. At that stage Lynch was heavily down to the extent of three pawns, but by aggressive play he eventually forced wade to accept a draw. This was in spite of the fact that the Hastings man was still at a considerable disadvantage in the matter of material.

The present title-holder, T. Lepviikman (Palmerston North) has not so far shown his best form. On the other hand, the Wellington player, R. O. Scott, played particularly well to secure a win over the champion in a game which was one of the features of the day’s play. The points table in the championship now reads: R. G. Wade, 31; R. O. Scott and H. McNabb, 3; D. L Lynch, J. F. Lange (Dunedin) and T. Lepviikman, 2*; C. B. Newick (Auckland), 2. W. M. Stewart (Christchurch) and A. E. Nield (Sydney), 11; W. Lang (Dunedin), 1. In the major open event, N. S. Henderson (Wellington) leads with 4 points, followed by N. T. Fletcher (Wellington) and W. Reindler (Wanganui) with 3i. • Next come A. Kwok (Dunedin), Mrs E. Short (Auckland) and H. A. McGilvray (Dunedin), who each have 3 points. Results of today’s games:— Championship Fourth round: R. O. Scott beat A. E. Nield; T. Lepkiikman beat C. B. Newico; H. McNabb beat W. M. Stewart; J. F. Lang beat G. E. Trundle; W. Lang beat W. E. Moore; D. I. Lynch drew with R. G. Wade. • In matches continued from the first round, Scott beat Land and Lynch drew with Stewart. Major Open Fourth round: N. S. Henderson beat Mrs Short; W. Reindler beat R. Watt (Dunedin); T.
