ATTLEE NOT FINDING CABINET RESHUFFLE AN EASY TASK
Recd. 5.30 p.m. London, Oct. 4 The Prime Minister (Mr. Attlee) is reported to be encountering considerable difficulty in the reconstruction of his Cabinet. The "Daily Telegraph's” diplomatic correspondent says certain senior ministers who had agreed to take new posts have become restive on discovering that their activities were to be co-ordinated in groups under other Ministers. They are reluctant, the correspondent says, to take on new posts unless they have responsibility only to Cabinet as a whole. The Minister of Fuel,(Mr. Shinwell) and the Minister of Health (Mr. Bevan) are still expected to be involved in the changes, but both would rather leave the Government than accept the status of junior to that they hold at present.
Mr. Attlee is also said to be having trouble in finding suitable replacements for junior Ministers he wishes to move.
