Rangitikei County Seeks Higher Grant For Noxious Weeds
(S.R.» Marton, Oct. 2. Advice that it was not possible to increase the grant of £2BO made to the Rangitikei County Council for the control of noxious weeds was received from the Department of Agriculture • at the council’s monthly meeting today. Funds made available to the department had been fully allocated, the letter stated, and though this year's grant was an increase on that made for the previous year, it was not possible to meet fully the council’s application for £375. Arrangements were being made for the principal inspector of the Wellington district to confer with the county and decide what works s.hould be carried out with the finance available. The county clerk (Mr. F. Nicol) said that the Wanganui County, which was smaller, received a larger grant than Rangitikei, and the Hawke's Bay County was allocated about £2OOO. The chairman (Cr. K. W. Dalrymple): It would appear that Hawke’s Bay got in early with their application. Cr. A S. Coleman said the amount allocated to Rangitikei was very small in view of the circumstancesAfter the chairman had said that this question would be taken up with the department's inspector, the letter wa« received.
