HOUSE-TO-HOUSE DRIVE FOR FUNDS TODAY
“MISS N.Z. QUEST” TO AID FOOD FOR BRITAIN
Details of how the organisation for today's house-to-house collection for funds for the "Miss New Zealand" Quest came to be launched were given to this week's meeting of the Wanganui Navy League Focd-for-Britain Committee, which body was the prime mover in arranging the drive. .
Mrs. J. Lorimer presided and reported that, with Mrs. A McPhail, she had waited on the Chief Postmaster at Wanganui (Mr. Stuckey) and as a result postmen agreed to lend their aid to a house-to-house collection. Miss E. Brown (honorary secretary of C.0.R.5.0.) was then contacted and she gave her services to organise the collectors, which were kindly provided by the city's secondary schools.
At a subsequent meeting, called by advertisement, the scheme was explained by Miss Brown and it was agreed that the proceeds from the drive, which lakes place this morning, would be divided equally between the two Wanganui candidates in the quest—Miss Janet Campion (Navy League) and Miss Marjorie Melville (Citizens).
AH the money collected will go to aiding the Eood-for-Britain Campaign.
