RANGITIKEI COUNTY PAYS TRIBUTES TO RETIRING FOREMAN
(S.R.) Marlon. Oct. 2. After being in the service of the Rangitikei County Council for 43 years, of which 33 were spent as foreman of the Northern portion, with headquarters in Taihape, Mr. J. McDonald, retires this week. He was met by the council during lhe afternoon tea adjournment at the monthly meeting today, when the chairman, Cr. K. W. Dalrymple, presented him with a clock on behalf of the councillors. Warm tributes were paid to his long association with the council. The chairman said chat Mr. McDonalds work was in a difficult part of tile country where there vere steep narrow roads subject to slips. He had kept in constant touch with the position and there had been ,to lengthy hold-ups. This was a verygood record of service. Tributes to Mr. McDonald were also paid bv Cr. A. D. Main and V. Smith, and Cr. S. A. R. Mam. former county engineer, who presented Mr. McDonald with an attache case on behalf of the staff. Cr. Smith said that the Northern end of the Rangitikei County was probably, as awkward as any area under control of a county council in [New Zealand with steep, papa coun,lry and a heavy rainfall. Mr. Mci Donald, however, always faced up to the position and got the besl out of ■ his men. Regret at severing his association iwith the Rangitikei County Council I was expressed by Mr. McDonald, returning thanks for the gifts. He paid a tribute to the na?n under liis charge land the county staff In Marton and | Taihape.
