IKE WILLIAMS RETAINS WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE
Reed. 6.30 p.m. New York, Aug, 5 Ike Williams to-night knocked out Bob Montgomery in the sixth round of a scheduled 15-rounds fight for the world's heavyweight title at Philadelphia. Both weighed 13321b5. The knockout came after Williams had floored Montgomery for the count of nine in the same round. He then moved in with a barrage of punches to finish the fight after 157 seconds of the sixth round. The earlier rounds were a gruelling give and take with Williams holding the edge in points. Williams is now undisputed world lightweight champion. Montgomery was New York and Pennsylvania titleholder and Williams held the National Boxing Association title.
