N.Z. MARCHING CHAMPIONSHIPS NETTED £406

National championships of the N.Z. Marching Union held in Wanganui on Saturday, February 16, netted £406. This was revealed at the first annual meeting of the union, held in Wanganui on Saturday night. “Wanganui Association has, ot course, been, in effect, the New Zealand Union for the 1946-47 season and lias operated only the one bank account. Wanganui’s annual meeting is not until July, so that the diseeting and auditing of the accounts has not yet taken place,” the president, Mr. E. L. Healy, stated. Briefly and broadly, the position is that Wanganui began the season with a credit balance of £4l 19s lOd. As at April 14 total credits had amounted to £lBl6 6s 4d. of which £406 came from the N.Z. Championships on February 16. Total debts amounted to £1504 6s 2d, leaving a credit of £312 0s 2d. Outstanding cheques, amounting to £6O 8s 9d, reduce this to £251 11s sd. Outstanding accounts should not amount to more than £lO or £l2, so that the final credit should be about £240. The matter of financing the tour of the Fusiliers to Australia is now of paramount importance. Wanganui Association has donated the profits of the local championship, held on March 30, amounting to approximately £65, to this fund. An extensive effort is about to be made in Wanganui and the surrounding district to gaise the necessary money, and the Seivewright Advertising Agency has been appointed to organise the campaign. “It is quite possible that some assistance will be required from the other affiliated associations. This, of course, would be justified, as, although Fusiliers is a Wanganui team, it is going to Australia as the champion team of the New Zealand Marching Union," Mr. Healy pointed out.
