BRILLIANT GOLF BY PICKWORTH
1 PROFESSIONAL TOURNEY ‘ AT KENSINGTON Recd. 7.30 p.m. Sydney, April 20. With a brilliant two-under-par round of 69 for a total of 294, H. Pickworth, Australian open golf champion, i won the Ampol £lOOO professionals 1 tournament at Kensington yesterday. The highlight of the day’s play, however, was Eric Cremin’s 66, which shattered Pickworth’s course record by three strokes. The New Zea- < lander Alec Murray finished equal J fourth with R. Want (Queensland), j His first day’s score of 82 should have r put him well out of the running, but ( he recovered magnificently with with 75, 73 and 75, including one of the best scores of the day. yesterday he ( played masterly golf to be two under . par to the 12th. hole, but thereafter seemed to tire. t Cremin, after a par 71 on the first t day, crashed with 85 on the second in * wind and rain squalls. Yesterday he t fought doggedly to overhaul Pick- t worth’s lead. Out in 34, he returned t an amazing 32 for the homeward . jpurney, scoring seven birdies. Pick- { worth, however, played with complete ( confidence to equal his own previous record and register five birdies. W. Bolger revealed the form which € enabled him to beat Gene Sarazen in 1934 open to take second place. He stroked his shots beautifully, but lost. 'J opportunities on the green, due to timid putting.
