UNREST IN MADAGASCAR
s FRENCH TROOPS ON WAY ‘ TO RESTORE ORDER Recd. 8 p.m. Paris, April 20 The High Commissioner, M. Marcel de Coppet, opening the first session of the Madagascan Representative Assembly at Antsirabe, said large military forces were on their way from France to restore order in Madagascar French news agency reports state that planes bombed a native stronghold in the coastal village of Vohilava, 176 miles south-east of Antananerive, and planes transported paratroop reinforcements to Mananjary. Recd. 8 p.m. Paris, April 19 The situation in Madagascar is much graver than has been reported said M. Castellan!, Radical Deputy for Madagascar. There were many atrocities and more than 80 Frenchmen already had been assassinated. A weak policy in Madagascar would end in disaster.
