N.Z.R.S.A. SEEKS AN INCREASE IN LOANS FOR BUILDING HOMES

(P.A.) Wellington, March T The N.Z.R.S.A. states that a progressive increase in building costs has made it almost impossible to erect a house within £l5OO, the limit set on rehabilitation loans granted for thia purpose.

The Dominion Executive Committee of the N.Z.R.S.A. has considered a recommendation from ifs rehabilitation sub-committee on this question and has resolved that the Government be asked to give urgent consideration to raising the £l5OO loan limit for the purpose of building or purchasing houses to £2OOO.

In submitting this resolution in urgent' letters to the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), the Minister of Finance (Mr. Nash) and the Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr. Skinner), the N.Z.R.S.A. pointed out that the question of inflation could be guarded against in the case of building by restricting the cost per foot for the erection of new dwellings, just as the purchasing of a home already erected was protected by the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act
