REVIVAL SEASON OF WANGANUI GUN CLUB REVIEWED

“It is pleasing to note that the club has come through the war years reasonably well,” stated the president (Mr. W. McKee) in his first annual report of the Wanganui Gun Club since before the war, at its annual meeting recently. “Although the shoots have not been so well attended as in earlier years, it is pleasing to note the success of young members who have attended regularly. It must be admitted that these young and enthusiastic members are the shooters of the future and they deserve every encouragement.” | The president explained the falling off of attendances at meetings, blaming, for the greater part, the.inflated price of ammunition, clay birds, and other material. “During the year the club successfully conducted the Wellington Provincial Clay Championship at which the club member, S. Pullen, followed by the Taihape veteran, H. A. Belk, occupied the winning positions,” continued the report- “The biggest single competition for the Inter-Club Collinson Cup was also held by the club, teams being present representing Ohingaiti, Taihape, Palmerston North, Kimbolton, Marton (two) and Wanganui. Congratulations are due to the Wanganui team who under trying conditions managed to retain the trophy by a narrow margin of points. Two inter-club matches were held—against Waverley and although the trophy for these events was successfully defended on the first occasion, Waverley proved an easy victor at the second meeting.” Club championship (19445): B. Handley. Western Cup: E. Handley. Duigan Trophy: D. Smith. J- Coull Troohy: C. Kempton. Club aggregate: B. Handley. T. Cuthbertson Memorial Cup: T. Simpson. ELECTION OF OFFICERS ’ Patron, Mr. R.
