TWO CANDIDATES FOR SEAT ON EDUCATION BOARD

The former board architect and a former deputy chairman of the board are contestants for the West Ward seat on the Wanganui Education Board, rendered vacant by tlje death of Mr. E. F. Hemingway, who held offive for over 30 years, the last 14 as chairman. Candidates are Messrs E. R. Hodge (Wanganui) and A. S. Coleman. both of whom had previously announced their intention to stand.

Closing of nominations al 5 p.m. yesterday saw only these two entered. The West Ward covers the district from Patea to Manunui to Marton, but excluding Wanganui city, and school committees concerned in the election will be those in that area only. However, nominations from any part of tiie board's extensive district were acceptable. Mr. Hodge served the board as an architect for many years, retiring for health reasons last year. Mr. Coleman was a member of the board for 12 years, lor three of which he served as deputy chairman. , , Nominators of Mr. Coleman were some of the members of the Marton Junction, the South Makirikiri and Waverley School Commjjtees. One or two members from each of the Patea. Marton District High. Alton and Manutahi School Committees nominated Mr. Hodge.

Polling will take place on Wednesday, March 26. but the counting of votes will not be made until a week later, so as to enable distant school committees to get their voting papers into the Wanganui office.
