NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA MAKES ITS BOW TO-NIGHT
Musical history will be made in New Zealand when the National Symphony Orchestra will give its first performance in the Wellington Town Hall, under the condnetorship of Mr. Andersen Tyre’. Since October last, when Mr. Tyrer gathered together the 65 musicians who comprise the orchestra, the painstaking task of preparing for the big moment, has been assiduously pursued. To-night a keen, loyal, and welltrained team will make its bow, reports lhe “Post." For the past few days rehcasing has been intense- A special rehearsal was held on Tuesday night, at which the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) and Lady Freyberg were present. They attended because of prior engagements in Auckland preventing their attending to-night and at the conclusion Sir Bernard paid an impassive tribute to the orchestra's performance.
