UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN KILLED BY TRAIN AT TAIHAPE
(0.C.) Taihape, Feb. 26. An unidentified woman passenger on the Wellington-Auckland express was killed at the Taihape Railway Station to-night It appears that the woman, who was a second class passenger, was attempting to alight from the train before it stopped. She fell between the train and the platform. The victim suffered severe injuries including broken pelvis, and two broken ankles as well as facial injuries. Dr. H. M. Hay was called but the woman died wjthin a few minutes of his arrival.
The passenger, who was an elderly person, joined the express at Palmerston North and had a reservation as far as Frankton. The express was delayed half an hour at Taihape. The woman was travelling in one of the front carriages of the express, and so when the train came to a stop het carriage was some distance past the refreshment rooms. It is believed there was at least one witness to the accident, but it was some time before the other passengers were aware of what had happened.
