FREYBERG CUP SERIES STARTED IN JAPAN

Rugby, soccer and hockey competitions and indoor basketball tournaments are now in full swing, he writes “The principal event of the winter season is the Freybcrg Cup Rugby football series. Competition for mis coveted trophy is particularly keen among units. The cun was presented for competition within the 2nd N.Z.E F by Major-General Sir Bernard Frey berg in 1940 in the Middle Er.-.t, and was brought Io Japan from Italy by Div. Cav., which bat allion won the last series.
“The competition began early in February under poor conditions, rain and hail turning the mud fields into a quagmire. Nevertheless, a high standard of play was shown and the indications are that it will be a close contest between four of the eight teams, which are: Div Cav., 22 Btn., 27 Btn., sth Field Engineers, 25th Field Battery, A S.C., Medics (combined Medical Corps and A.E.S team), and Chofu units (Sigs.. E.M.E., Provost, Ordnance and Bde. H Q .),” he comments •
