JAP EMBASSY AND OTHER BUILDINGS IN ENGLAND TAKEN OVER
Rec. 6.30 p.m. London, Jan. 4. The Japanese Embassy jn London and its contents, and the contents of the Japanese Consulates and buildings not privately-owned in other parts of Britain, now have been taken over by the Government, and the Ministry of Works is arranging for their sale or disposal, says "The Times." The Embassy, in Portman Square, is a drab three-storey building, damaged at the rear by a bomb which wrecked the adjoining property. It will be retained and used as Government offices. The Foreign Office has not yet decided whether the proceeds of the sale will go toward the payment of reparations, but a special note will be taken of all profits in case it is so decided. Japan, "The Times” adds, is being treated as though she had no Government with which Britain can deal—the Foreign Office does not, in fact, recognise the present form of Government.
