FIRST GENERAL MEETING OF LOCAL BODY OFFICERS’ INSTITUTE

The lirst general meeting of the N.Z. Institute of Local Body Administrative Officers was held in Wellington on October 30, and was attended by members representing city and and borough councils, counties, electric power authorities, catchment boards and other associated bodies.

The institute has as one of its main objects the training of young men for responsible local body work, a training that is becoming increasingly necessary as local body work touches more and more of the life of the people, and a syllabus of examinations to be conducted was approved. It is hoped that the first examination will be hold towards the encl of 1947.

The Rehabilitation Department has proposals for a refresher course for local body officers, and the institute agreed to co-operate with the department in the conduct of such a coarse. Officers elected for the new year were: F. H. Hudson (Levin), president; T. R. Congalton (Mt. Albert), vice-president; G. A. Ammundsen (Wanganui), secretary, with a council of Messrs T W. M. Ashby. Edgar Ashcroft and N M. Sneer (Auckland), A. .1. McDowall (Pukekohe*. E. P. Norman (Wellington), H. 11. Wylie (Hawke’s Bav). C. L. J. Campboil (Ashburton), H. C. Gim'nlott (In ve.cargill), L. J. Hagan (Palmerston North).
