N. Z. AIRCREW OFFERED SHORI SERVICE WITH R.A.F.

(P.A.) Dunedin, Oct. 29. The Air Ministry is inviting New Zealand flying personnel to apply for extended service in the Royal Air Force, stated the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones, in an interview to-day. “The terms of service offered by the Air Ministry cover free passages to Great Britain with repatriation at R.A.F. expense, together with free family passages when necessary and liberal gratuities on completion of satisfactory service," Mr. Jones said. “The Air Ministry specify that it requires qualified and war experienced aircrew and that men who have already been repatriated and demobilised are eligible to apply as well as those still serving. Officers will engage to serve for four years on the active list followed by four years on reserve, and a gratuity of £5OO is payable on completion of satisfactory service on the active list. “N.C.O. engagements are for three years regular service followed by four years on the reserve, with gratuities payable at the rate of £125 for airmen who held the rank of sergeant in January 1946, or on prior demobilisation to £175 to a warrant officer at the same date. N.C.O.’s will be eligible for selection for commissions in accordance with the normal policy and if so selected will be eligible for the gratuities at officer rates. “On completion of active service personnel will be permitted to serve their reserve time in either New Zealand or Great Britain. “Only a limited number of vacancies exist for these engagements and full particulars of terms of service will be made available through the New Zealand Press.”
