KANGAROO JUMPS IN A SUBURB STREET

Recd. 7.45 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 30. Australia’s more spectacular forms of wild life have a way of intruding on civilisation seldom known in New Zealand. To-day a citizen was walking down the street in . a populous suburb of Chatswood, when a great brown shape shot past him. It resolved itself into a large kangaroo, which headed for a city-bound tram, skidded on its back along the greasestained road, and made off at high speed. So far no missing kangaroos have been reßprted, but the citizen is relieved to find that others saw the animal too.

Reporters covering a bush lire at Narrabeen saw a dazed looking koala clinging to the top of a burning tree. When the tree fell he was pinned under it. Rescuers found that all four paws were badly burned. The patient was rushed by a car to Taronga Park Zoo hospital, where several sick parrots, an owl and a monkey were interested spectators to the bandaging operations. The newcomer, who has been christened “Hotfoot” now looks like a fighter going into the ring.
