THREE TEAMS TIE IN N.Z. MEN’S INDOOR BASKETBALL

iP.A.) Wellington, Oct. 28. I Wellington, Auckland and Otago 1 lied for first place in the national ; men's indoor basketball cnampion- : snips, which concluded in Wellington -o-day. The tournament was the first under the auspices of the newly formed New Zealand Association, having previously been run by the Y.M.C.A., which has been responsible for much of the growth and popularity of the sport. Post-section play between the three leading teams provided some brilliant basketball. Otago first emerged as possible winners, by defeating a strong Auckland combination by 37 to 34. Staging a magnificent final quarter Auckland defeated Wellington by 40 to 38, but always had the upper hand. The final game between Wellington and Otago was notable for the grandstand finish by Wellington, who rain into the lead In the final quarter for the first time in the match, to go on to a clear-cut victory. Lack of time prevented the North v. South match being played, but the following teams were announced by the selectors, Messrs. R. O. Johnson, and G. F. Briggs (North Island). S. Hunt (caplain), G. Campbell, J. Altman (Auckland), R. Steele, E. Carlyle Palmerston North), R. Bartley (Morrinsville), G. Milne (Wellington), and B. O'Shanghnessy Hamilton). SOUTH ISLAND. I. Paterson (capt), N. Williams, R. Darracott, J. Collins (Otago), C. Rhodes, J. Warrick (Canterbury), and D. J. Wifiin (Southland). The selectors. also announced the following New Zealand side:— Centres: J. Paterson, capt. Otago), S. Hunt (Auckland). Shoots: G. Campbell (Auckland); G. Milne (Wellington), N. Williams Otago). Guards: L. Williams (Otago), J. Altman (Auckland), B. O'Shanghnessv (Hamilton). To-day's results were: Otago 60, Wairarapa 28; Gisborne 40, Masterton 25; Canterbury 41, Southland 30; Wellington 37, Wanganui 17; Hamilton 61 Wanganui 19; Auckland 57, Morrinsville 35; Palmerston North 75, Wairarapa 25; Hutt Valley 68, Nelson 52.
