I In the Brewer Memorial Handicap, i the open sprint at the Waverley meetling on Monday, New Deer beat Tui mere by a length, with Gay Lena a 'length and a-half away. Tumere carried 7.0 and was ridden by B. Carrol’, a young apprentice from the Fordell stable of D. T. Marks, who trains the Bulandshar gelding. New Deer, who I was handicapped to carry 7.7, thus conceding Tumere 71b, actually carried 7.25, an allowance being claimed for his rider. R. D. Urwin, from the Marton stable of W. J. McDowell, trainer of New Deer. In the McKelvie Memorial at the Rangitikei meeting at Bulls next Saturday, New Deer has been handicapped at 7.9 and Tumere at 7.3. i Thus Tumere is now in receiot of 61b [only after being beaten at Waverley. ’ Further, though New Deer actually i carried 2ilb more than Tumere at j Waverley, a 51b allowance could be I claimed. for him at Bulls, and he | would then be in receipt of lib from Tumere—after beating him at Waverley The handicapper for the Waverley meeting was Mr. A. V. O Brien, and the weights for the Rangitikei meetng were framed by Mr. E. V. Wilson
