KING COUNTRY VIEW OF LIQUOR REPORT “RECOGNITION OF RIGHTS”
(P.A.) New Plymouth, Sept. .4. “The main gain as far as the King Country is concerned is that the commission has recognised the rights of citizens to determine for themselves whether this shall be a licensed or a non-licensed area,” stated the chairman of the Taumarunui Licensing Committee, Mr. M. H. Wilks, commenting on the findings of the Licensing Commission to-day. On a number of occasions from 1923 onwards petitions seeking this right of determination had been presented to successive Governments, but had borne no result, said Mr. Wilks. That right had apparently now won som? recognition. “In general, all the submissions made by the Taumarunui Licensing Committee, speaking on behalf ol local bodies and organisations of the Central and Southern King Country, appear to have received iavourable consideration from the commission.” added Mr. Wilks.
