INCREASE OF 1/- A WEEK

BASIC WAGE IN AUSTRALIA Melbourne, July 16. A basic wage increase of one shilling a week will operate in all the capital cities, except Brisbane, from the first pay period in August in all cases where a cost-of-living adjustment is made quarterly. The basic wages will be: Sydney, £5; Melbourne, £4 19s; Brisbane, £4 14s; Adelaide, £4 15s; Perth, £4 15s; Hobart, £4 16s. Where awards are based on cost of living figures for five country towns there will be a similar increase in all States except in South Australia and Tasmania.
