FIRST BALL OF THE SEASON AT WAVERLEY
GAY THRONG IN BRILLIANT TOWN HALL SETTING (0.C.) Waverley, June 27. Last, night was a scene of pre-war days at the Waverley Town Hall. It was the footballers' annual ball, and the first this season, and the first ball since peace was declared. The dress suits had all been taken out of mothballs and the ladies in evening dress, i of every style and colour, made a very gay and attractive scene, with a background of ferns and flowers beautifully arranged on the stage. Vincen's Ambassadors, from Stratford, supplied the music, which was very much appreciated by both onlookers and dancers.
A very large crowd was in attendance, and the ladies managing the supper had a big job, wh.ch they dia admirably. Mr. L. A. Bradley, president of the Rugby Club, in his speech during the evening, thanked those ladies first, of all.
A competition was won by Mr. L. A. Bradley, who promptly donated ?t back again for auction. After a Jot of fun, Mr. T. Lupton bought it for £3. It was a dinner. Battery lights had been strung across the hall to await the nour the power was to go off, and, except for being a little duller, no one really noticed the difference. To add to the evening a photographer was present, and had soon finished his roll of films and had to go out of business for the rest of the night. Many visitors wore present, coming from as far as Eltham in the north and Wanganui in the south. There is no doubt that the snow was a huge sucess and will add quith a considerable sum to the Football Club’s funds.
