FARMERS MUST DO THEIR SHARE

NO TIME FOR SLACKING That the various A. and P. Asociaiiuns and District Councils If th# Royal Society throughout New Zea'uhd should take Hock of themselves, aiiG do all in their power to further the interests of the farming commun.'ty, was stressed by the president of cht Royal Agricub liral Society of New Zemand (Mr. B. E. Keiller) at the annum meeting of the Western District Council, held in Wanganui yesterday. "Tiie last five years have been particularly difficult ones," he said, “and the next, year or two will al-o be ciiffiCUII." He added that farming bodies could not afford to sit down how that the war was over, but would have to cio all in their power to push production forward and better the quality of stock. He also mentioned the disturbing trend of the population to move from the country into the towns and stressed the apathetic attitude of the Tiesent Government towards farmers ar a primary production. There was a lack of sympathy towards the needs oc the producers generally, he said, F an u primary- production, which is the life blood of this country, was being forced into a secondary consideration. During the war years some of the District Councils had not been doing aii they might, and Mr. Keiller emphasised the' need for all farmers to thiow their weight into the struggle and endeavour to improve the quality an<i quantity of stock in New Zealand. The co-operation of all A. and P. Associations and other farming bodies ii required, and he asked that they submit. any ideas and projects to the parent body.
