INTEREST REVIVED IN RATA BRANCH. <U.C.) Marton, May 21. After being in recess since the last ejection there was a splendid attendance at the annual meeting of the Rata branch of the New Zealand National Party in the Rata Memorial Dall last night. Mr. C. F. McManawav presided and thanked the electors present for their response to the branch’s appeal to again take part in tite forthcoming election, campaign. Mr. J. Caithness, chairman of the Rangitikei Electorate, addressed the meeting on the advisability of forming a strong committee to assist in the election of the National candidate for prospects for a change in the Government of the Dominion were very bright. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. C. F. McManaway; vice-presidents, Mr. P. Rhodes; secretary and treasurer, Mr. P. Smith; delegates to Rangitikei Electorate Committee, Messrs C. F. McManaway, P. Smith, P. Rhodes, E. A. Theed, L. Hammond and Mrs. C. F. McMana»vav; general committee, Messrs W. Gill, S. Hart. F. Hayward, R. Pickfcrci, J. Pickford, J. Potaka, C. Turner, Misses Meads (2), Harvey, Mrs. E. l ickford and officers and delegates ex officio, with power to add to their number. Mi. E. B. Gordon, M.P., gave a very inicresting address on th« leading poI tical topics of the day on similar lines to that at previous meetings. Mr. A. Way, organising secretary, stressed the fact that this election was the most important in the history of New Zealand. The issue would be cioar cut and definite. It was to be either a completely Socialised State; e Slate that, would give with one hand and take with both, a State that will be supreme and you, the individual, nothing; or the preservation of those simple basic principles of British democracy, so dearly bought and built up throughout the centuries. That
was the choice to be offered. There was to be no compromise, no middle coarse. The electors must give their decision—a decision which may determine our way of living for generations to come. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the speakers by -acclamation. Al the conclusion of the meeting the ladies of Rata entertained the visitors
