WANGANUI PLAYER IN N.i. GOLF FINAL

(P.A.) New Plymouth, April 22. A. R. Kitto, Wanganui, and R. 11. Glading, Hamilton, are finalists in the North Island golf championship which will be decided at New Plymouth tomorrow.

Glading beat P. G. F. Smith, one up in the semi-final that was anybody’s game right to the last green, when Smith was stymied, and conceded the hole. Kitto lost to J. Holden, New Plymouth, three up and two after an exciting tussle. Kitto in the morning round went, out in 38 and came home in 37, two over bogey for the course, under conditions that were anything but favourable, and finished 6 up. Holden improved noticeably in the early stages alter lunch and won the first, four holes, but faded later. Kitto’s afternoon score was again 75. Glading finished the morning round three up with a score of 75 compared with Smith’s 79. After lunch Glading started badly and was two down at the ninth. Glading recovered and there was lit lie between them from then on. Glading took 78 for the afternoon round.

RETURNED SERVICEMEN PROMINENT. Returned servicemen’ with distinguished war records have been playing prominently in the North Island golf championships at New Plymouth, and

two of them to-day will fight out the final. They are A. R. Kitto, Wanganui, and'R. H. Glading, Hamilton. As a Lancaster pilot, Mr. Kitto held the rank of flying ofiicer and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for meritorious service in action. Mr. Glading likewise was a pilot, holding a commission in the Fleet Air Arm. A semi-finalist, P. G. F. Smith, who was defeated by Glading yesterday, served in the Air Force and won the Distinguished Flying Medal as a ser-geant-pilot. golT finalists (P.A.) Christchurch, April 22. By winning the semi-final matches to-day, J. L. Blair and O. A. Y. Johnston qualified for the final of lhe South Island golf championships, which will be played over 36 holes tomorrow.
