SILVER JUBILEE OF OHAKUNE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL TO-DAY
(0.C.) Ohakune, April 19. Silver jubilee celebrations xextending over a period of three days.will begin to-morrow afternoon in tne secondary department of the Ohakune District High School. Old pupils who attended the school will be present from Wanganui, Wellington and as far south as Otago, while a good representation is expected from Main Trunk districts.
The secondary department of the school was established 25 years ago, and to mark the occasion the committee has arranged a comprehensive programme, beginning with a welcome to old pupils at 2.30 p.m. to-morrow. Speakers at this gathering will include the Minister of Education (Mr. Mason), the Hon. F. Langstone, M.P. for Waimarino, the Mavor of Ohakune, Mr. H. Delamar, and the chairman of the School Committee, Mr. M. Gould. Visitors will be served with afternoon tea and there will be time for informal re-unions of many old school friends before the jubilee dinner, which is timed to begin at 7.30 tomorrow evening. On Sunday a church parade will be held at 10.30 a.m. in the school buildings. The service will be conducted by Mr. H. Carrington.
A picnic trip has been arranged for Sunday afternoon, when the destination will most likely be Pipiriki. Transport has already been arranged. A sports carnival will be held on Monday and the jubilee celebrations will conclude with a ball on Monday night.
President of the Ohakune District High School Old Pupils’ Association is Mr. V. Stuckey. The present headmaster of the school is Mr. T. G. McCullough.
