REGENT OF GREECE
TO REMAIN IN OFFICE
London, April 10. The Greek Regent, Archbishop Damaskinos, after receiving a letter from Mr. Bevin, has decided to remain in office for the present, says the Exchange Telegraph’s Athens correspondent. Mr. Bevin’s letter was handed to Archbishop Damaskinos by Sir Clifford Norton when he called on Archbishop Damaskinos this morning. The archbishop will await the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting of the Greek Cabinet before making a final decision. He told M. Tsaldaris that he was acting “to facilitate the Cabinet’s task.” Mr. Bevin. in his letter, said: “I urge you to remain in office, as it is at present impossible to fix a date for a solution of the question of the regime in Greece.” The letter paid tribute to Archbishop Damaskinos’ work during the past 15 months.
