RIFT BETWEEN TOWN AND COUNTRY
ELECTORAL CHANGES HAVE WIDENED IT (P.A.) Hastings, April 10 Dissatisfaction with the changes in the electoral boundaries was expressed at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Provincial Executive of the Federated Farmers this afternoon, the main objections being the consideration shown community interest, and the geographical handicaps under which some d stricts were placed, and the increase in the rift betwen country and town. It was poi;red out by Mr. J. Todd that Auckland City had now as many representatives as half the South Island. “Thn present boundaries, which cut. eff the towns completely from the country surrounding it. is wrong,” said Mr. P. S. Plummer. “The new boundaries are contrary to all the farmers have been working for. The rift between town and country has been great enough, and this is only acc?ntuat : ng it; and only lea<*ng to a state of affairs in Parliament where we will have one party representing towns and another the country Interests.”
