EVENING CLASSES
MORE THAN 400 ENROLMENTS AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE
STRAIN UPON INSTRUCTORS
Enrolments to date for the evening school conducted by the Wanganui Techmeal College exceed 400, and as some departments are now working to capacity the strain imposed upon the instructors, some of whom are called back on three or four nights each week, is such as to cause concern, stated the principal. Mr. J. Dash, reporting to the monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the college.
There have been marked increases in the numbers offering for most classes for apprentices. There is an ever-increasing number of enrolments from retured servicemen in trade courses and in accountancy subjects.
It is to be regretted that the special classes arranged for rehabilitated men employed by the New Zealand Railways have been discontinued, the principal commented. There ,s a growing interest in classes other than those which serve a vocation. Advanced English is br.ing supported in satisfactory numbers and indications point to the early opening of a class i French for non-examina-tion students.
Mtyi OR ENGINEERING CLASSES. Accommodation previously used by the caretaker is this year oeing useu as an evening class room for motor engineering apprentices. Various items of motor equipment have been made ava.lable by tne Motor Trade Certification Board and these have been prepared and suitably mounted by Messrs. F. Hackett and S. C. Shenton, employers’ representatives on the Apprenticeship Committee. The equipment makes a most attractive display and should be of material assistance to the instructor. The room is part.cularly suitable for the screening of film strips supplied from the Motor Trade Certification Board's extensive library.
