AUSTRALIAN LINKS THREE SERVICES IN THE MAKING Recd. 8.35 p.m. Canberra, April 10. The international air lines that will link Australia with the world were revealed by the Air Minister, Mi Drakeford, in the House of Representatives to-day. He gave details of three services that wifi operate across the Pacific, two being Empire controlled and the other American. The service to. England will be operated from Sydney, via India, and there will be a regular service to New Zealand. The details are: British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines to operate across the Pacific will be based on Sydney, with Australia having 50 per cent, of the shares, New Zealand 30 and the United Kingdom 20. Tranc-Pacitic Airline, operated by Pan-American Airways, on behalf ol the United States, will commence, probably about the same time. Another Trans-Pacific line, operated by Trans-Canada Airlines, and based probably on Vancouver, will operate in partnership with the Commonwealth Airlines.

A parallel partnership of services between London and Sydney, via India, wil; be flown bv the British Overseas Airways Corporation, and Qantas Empire Airways. The Trans-Tasman service will be changed to make New Zealand, instead of the United Kingdom, the main capital holder, and Australia to take a greater share. Australia and New Zealand have been given permission to operate regional services in defined areas of the Pacific. Australia may operate services to Fiji and the islands north, and north-west of Australia, and New Zealand to Fiji and islands east of that line.

Merlin-engined Skymasters for the Empire Trans-Pacific service are not likely to be available till next year. In order to get the service started at the earliest date, an Australian operator has been authorised to arrange for an interim service by contract. Trans-Canada Airlines and the BCPA. are to use the same type of planes, pooling traffic and revenue. Lancastrian land-planes and Hythe flyingboats will flv the Australia-United Kingdom service.
