RECOMMENDATION FOR MR. E. W. MEREWETHER SERVICES TO THE R.S.A. The action of the executive of th*: Wanganui R.S.A. in recommending Mr. E. W. Merewether for the award of the certificate of merit and gold star was unanimously endorsed at the quarterly meeting of the association on Wednesday night. The president, Mr. C. S. Smith, said Mr. Merewether had joined the association in 1919 shortly after its inception, and, with the exception of a period when the association went out of existence in Wanganui, had given his best for the welfare of returned men. During the Second World War he had been of great assistance. Mr. Merewether was chairman of the Soldiers’ Reception Committee of the Wanganui City Council and DeputyMayor of Wanganui.

“We know of no one more worthy of the honour of receiving this award, and we pass on our recommendation for your favourable consideration, and trust that this will have your approval,” said Mr. Smith.

Mr. Merewether was a member of the R.S.A. committee from 1921 to 1923, and a member of the Empire Veterans' Committee in 1929, becoming president in 1930 and being patron from 1931 until 1934, when the Empire Veterans’ Association amalga. mated with the R.S.A. Since 1935 he has been patron of the Wanganui branch of the R.S.A.
