SCHOOL SWIMMING. ANNUAL CARNIVAL HELD. (0.C.) Hunterville, March 2. The annual swimming carnival of the Hunterville Consolidated School was held in the baths on Thursday afternoon in the presence of a large attendance of parents and friends. Keen competition was witnessed and with inter-house honours at stake the enthusiasm of the young onlookers knew no bounds. The successful house was Grey with 76 points, Hobson being second with 75 and then came Leign (58) and Marsden (26).

The senior girls’ championship cup was won by Maureen Shindler, while the boys’ trophy went to Ray Wall. Each of these promising young swimmers won the three championship events, and in the girls’ events Ivy Frampton were second each time, with George McDonald second in each of the boys’ races. At the conclusion of the programme the cups were presented by the chairman of the School Committee (Mr. D. D. Simpson). The teaching staff, under the headmaster (Mr. G. Snadden), disposed of a big programme with commendable efficiency. Rev. W. L. Low and Messrs. S. Coleman and E. W. Donovan were the judges. Results are as follows:

Dur.ng the afternoon four girls, A. Rhodes, I. Frampton. M. Shindley and F. Morton, gave a life saving demonstration. PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Taylor are spending a holiday on a tour of the South Island. Mr. S. Wilton, who underwent an operation in a Palmerston North private hospital last week, is progressing satisfactorily. Mrs. J. Morrison, Vinegar Hili, is spending a holiday in Wellington. Rev. A. C. McLean, of Wanganui, will v.sit Hunterville on Sunday, March 24 and will conduct the Presbyterian Church services, on that day. Rev. Hosking, of Bulls, will be the preacher next Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. W. Dallas are attending a conference of the Plymouth Brethren faith in Hastings. Private and Mrs. Victor Murray are visitors to Hunterville. Mrs. Murray was formerly Miss M. Luty, of this town. She was married recently on the return of Private Murray from overseas.
