JOCKEY PREMIERSHIP

POSITION A 1» INTERESTING stAge.

The struggle for the position of leading jockey in the Dominion has become more interesting over the past fortnight. The Hawera jockey N. B. Holland, holds the lead at the moment but he was injured in a sensational smash at Ellerslie on Saturday and was taken to hospital. It is believed that he suffered concussion and injuries to an elbow and leg. G. Hughes, who then held second place, was suspended for a month, from January 19. At the conclusion of racing on January 19, Holland, with 23 wins, was leading from Hughes, 22, and Brough’ton 19. At Trentham on Tuesday Broughton won on French Count and Gay Stroller, and The Grand. This brought, his total to 22. He is nowequal with Hughes and only one be-

hind Holland. With his two rivals out of the way Broughton is likely to take the lead shortly.
