COLOURFUL DISPLAY

GLADIOLUS SHOW Lovers of gladioli must surely feel that I«he blooms on display at the gladiolus show being held al Thain’s Building by the Wanganui Horticultural Society are some of the most beautiful yet seen. Yesterday there were admiring crowds inspecting the wealth of beautiful blooms which stood, row on row round the walls and down the centre of the building. There was a seemingly endless variety of then, in every colour imaginable, white, (.ream, primrose, gold, red, tawny golds and bronze reds, cyclamen, n.auve-majenta, scarlet ann bronze, orange and cream, also tne deiicateiy flecked and shaded blooms. The champion blooms in the three I sections were all in scarlet and red shades and were named “Southern Command’’ (open class), “Eng’s Scarlet” (intermediate section), and "Hmdenberg Memory” (novice section). There was also a colourful display of hydrangeas, delphiniums and other low ly h ooms. Gladioli played a large part in the derorative section, a basket of tall white spikes with one in • salmon i ink shade gained first, place,' with a basket arranged with all pink J .shades was placed second. Also very , much admired was a basket of deepi red ami orange blooms, and another i with shaded pink spikes arranged ini fan shape. A large cluster of white | end scarlet ‘dooms attracted the bulge's (\w in Hip section for howl o' ’adioli.
