PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES
GRAVE DISQUIET AT DELAY (P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 18. Commenting on an Auckland message regarding public servants’ dis-! satisfaction at Government delay regarding the recommendations of the consultative committee which dealt with salaries last year, Mr. J. Turnbull, general secretary of the New Zealand Public Service Association, said the dissatisfaction was by no means confined to the Auckland district. In recent tours by Mr. J. K Hunn, association president, and him sell, Mr. Turn bull said, they were inundated with inquh’ies as to wha' the Government was doing in respect of the consultative committee’s report, and it was quite clear that there was grave disquiet at the delay. The Wellington executive appreci ated that the Government must give the recommendation careful consideration, but considered the welfare of Government employees of sufficient importance to warrant its being given priority. The adequacy Qf the forthcoming re-grading depended entirely whether or how soon the Government adopted the recommendations of the committee, and the unemplained delay gave no cause for optimism.
