MOST SERVICE GIRLS SEEK MARRIAGE
CAREERS COME SECOND IN BRITAIN
(Special Correspondent—N.Z.P.A.) Recd. 10 p.m. London, Jan. 10. Enquiries among women's services show that over three-quarters of the girls want marriage and a home when they are demobilised. Careers take second place.
Many feel their service life has not been helpful in fitting them for civilian careers. Those who get married do not expect to find it easy to secure a home, and there is much criticism to be hoard to-day that while the Government is announcing impressive plans for house building, houses just aren't being built. One answer made to this is that, just as a big flow of munitions could not be expected in lhe o»irly war years, so a flood of new houses cannot be expected immediately. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health “points” for the selection of tenants, is being widely adopted by housing officials. First priority is given to members of the forces, followed by health, lack of accommodation and length of application.
