QUIET CHRISTMAS IN N.S.W.

Recd. 12.45 a.m. Sydney, Dec. 25. New South Wales had a quiet Christmas. In Sydney there was some noisy celebrations, but the crowds were good humoured. For the first time since traffic restrictions were imposed, traffic moved freely. There were some vacant seats in some of the trains moving to the country. There was little serious crime. A man was stabbed in Newcastle and his wife has been charged with murder. Two Sydney police sergeants were injured when breaking up brawling crowds. The police say drunkenness in the city was higher than for many years past.
