The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and the staff accompanying him to the United Nation# Conierence, to open in London next month, has arrived in Washington, states a Press cable message. Mr. G. L. K. Drew, assistant engineer of the Manawatu county Counc.l, has received notice o' his appointment. as county engineer to the Waimate West County, and will take up his new appointment early in the New Year, states the “Chronicle’s” Hanson correspondent. Mr. F. H. Stokes, well-known Wanganui pianist who died recently, was referred to by the chairman, Cr. E. W. Merewether, at a civic reception and complimentary luncheon to returned personnel, held in the R.S.A. Hall on Saturday. Cr. Merewether said that Mr. Stokes had played at many such gatherings as this. The assembled company stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory.
