SANSON NOTES

THE SCHOOL BREAK-UP.

(0.C.) Sanson, Dec. 21. The Sanson school was packed to capacity for the annual prize-gwing and review of the year’s work. In his opening remarks the chairman of the School Committee (Mr. F. S. Collier) said what a pleasure it was to see so many parents present to testify to their interest in lhe school. Alter reviewing the years work of lhe school and of the committee he remarked on the cleanliness of the school and of the well cared for appearance of the grounds which reflected great credit on the headmaster, Mr. J. W. Beattie. The school was tastefully decorated with a Christmas tree in the foreground from wnich suspended the prizes gained during the year. The chairman then referred to the fact that Miss K. J. Reed, the infant mistress, had been appointed to Kopane. He assured the parents that the committee was very sorry to lose her services. The headmaster, Mr. Beattie, pointed out that the pupils going through the Sanson School were more than holding their own against other pupils in the secondary scnools, mentioning that one pupil sent on last year hau succeeded in gaining eight firsts, while reports of otners revealed they were doing exceptionally well. Mrs. Collier presented the awards for the year, tne following be.ng the prize list:

Spray, Lorraine Wise. Mrs. Collier spoke of the good-work bemg done in the school and said what a pleasure n had been to hand over the prizes and awards. She congratulated the children on their splendid efforts. Mr. Beattie then presented the Dux prize, and in the course of his remarks stated that the recipient, Catherine Collier, had well earned her proud place and title of Dux. He statfl that this girl had not only been painstaking in her work but that with her willingness and initiative had been of the very greatest assistance Io him and to the school in general. Catherine had not only acted as joint librar.an of the school with the greatest credit to herself but had been the pianist for the singing. This latter work had been of an excellent, nature. In sport she was one of the best and he was sure that shp would prove a wonderful asset in her secondary school, Nga Tawa College. The Rev. Spencer was welcomed by the chairman and thanked for his services in the school.

Before afternoon tea was dispensed the two senior girls of the school, Miss Catherine Collier and Miss June Young, made two presentations; one to the headmaster and the other to Miss Reed, expressing the regret of the pupils that. Miss Red was leaving the school. The chairman of the .School Committee also made a presentation to Miss Reed. Both recipients suitably responded, Miss Reed say.ng that now the time had come she was very sorry to leave Sanson, where she had spent three happy years and made real friends. During the afternoon the children rendered

several songs and anthems to the pleasure of the gathering. The serving of afternoon tea brought a memorable afternoon to a close. EUCHRE TOURNEY. The euchre tournament in aid of the local R.S.A.
