TRENTHAM RACECOURSE

FAILURE OF TROTTING CLUB NEGOTIATIONS

Wellington, Dec. 20. Negotiations between the Wellington Racing Club and the Wellington Trotting Club for the permanent use of Trentham as a trotting course have, it is unofficially reported, broken down, although the Racing Club has granted the Trotting Club' the use of the track for meetings on February 2 and 23. Several offers were made to the Racing Club, including the purchase of property lor the laying out of new training tracks, for with trotting conducted on an inside track the present facilities would be made more or less useless. Again the Trotting Club was prepared to pay an annual rental for the use of the Trentham racecourse. However, the offers were not acceptable to the Racing Club, and it appears as if the Wellington Trotting Club has now no option but to revert back to its former venue at Hutt Park. The tracks at Hutt Park were carefully looked alter during the military occupation and are almost ready for racing, but the buildings have deteriorated and will require practically reconstructing before a meeting can be held. It is understood that the Wellington Trotting Club has been in touch with the Government in regard to the restoration of the buildings to their pre-war condition, but no final decision has yet been made.
