MAORI BATTALION

NATIONAL WELCOME IS BEING PREPARED (P.A.) Wellington, Dec. 19. Preparations are being made for a national welcome to the Maori Battalion, which is expected to arrive in Wellington between .January 26 and 28. Tribal welcome w ill be given afterwards in various districts. Plans provide for a short ceremonial parade through the city, followed by a welcome by the acting-Prime Minister and a Moari welcome and feast in the large wharf sheds. There will be a hui on the East Coast at the end of January, nnder the direction of Sir

Apirana Ngata, and the Ngapuhi have invited the Defence Minister, Mr. Jones to attend their ceremony at Kaikohe. The Aiwa and other tribes arc arranging functions, and almost every kaing-i will conduct a welcome for some members.
