NEW WAGE AGREEMENT FOR FIELD WORKERS

(P.A.) Wellington. Dec. 20 A recent agreement between the New Zealand Tobacco Growers’ Federation and lhe New Zealand Workers’ Union, relating to wages and conditions of work of agricultural workers employed in the tobacco industry in the Nelson industrial district,' is given effect to in an Agricub ural Workers’ Extension Order, 1945, gazetted to-night. The order affects iome 300 Nelson tobacco plantations. It incorporates new wage rates which became effective on October 1, whereby male aduit workers in lhe field and shed sections had their wages increased from 2s 3d to <2s 71d hourly, and female adult workers had theirs lncrea ed from Is 4id hourly to Is 7ld. There is a corresponding increase for juniors. Field workers a:e entitled to a 15 minutes morning and afternoon smoko, to Da counter as working lime.
