BAKERS GIVE MORE TO WHEAT RESEARCH

GROWERS’ COMPENSATION MADE EASIER (F.A.) Wellington, Dec. 20. At the request of the New Zealand Master Bakers an i Pastrycooks’ Association. the contribution of the bakers to the work of the Wheat Research Institute is to bo increased, as from January 1, 1946. from lid to 2id per ton on flour sold to hakers. This is being done by increasing from Is to Is Id per ton the levy made by the Wheat Committee on flour bought bv bakers. An amendment gazetted to-night to 'he Board of Trade (Wheat and Flour) Regulations, 1944, which authorises this increase, also revises the sectfbn ot the principal regulations dealing with the wheatgrowers’ compensation scheme. Hitherto it. has been obligatory on every grower whose crop suffered damage, from any of a number of causes specified, to have his land occupied by the damaged crop until the normal time of harvest if he wishes to qualify for compensation. To-night's amendment gives the wheat committee some discretionary power, enabling it to permit a damaged crop to be ploughed under without being carried/orward to harvest.
